Alex Reads Twilight: Stephenie Meyer + Science = Wrong

I've lost an entire evening to Twilight.

I blame William Kostakis.

He wrote a post on how real life teen boys shouldn't be measured against Edward Cullen in response to another author's stance that boys should be more like Edward. Ugh. I've already put my two cents in but I welcome you to do the same.

On my face book account I linked to William's post and some discussion with my FB followers erupted. The phrase 'Alex Reads Twilight' was dropped and as I had no idea what it meant (which is bad as I am a YA blogger), I immediately checked it on google.

Then I lost two hours.

Alex Reads Twilight is a series of YouTube posts by British musician Alex Day. He reads a chapter of Twilight and vlogs about it as he reads. You might be thinking about TwilightGuy here but don't. Alex basically mocks it from start to finish and it made my day. There are quotable comments (as you can see from the post's title) from start to finish. I love it. So much so that I viewed all the chapter responses and am hanging out for my next hit - hurry up Alex.

Do you know about Alex? And why did no one tell me?

I welcome you to add your favourite Alex Reads Twilight quote in the comment section :) Go forward, my friends, and "mock it like it's hot".

PS There is someone we would all recognise that pops up at one point in the series. Watch out for them!

I read the Kostakis article earlier and it cracked me up and I did actually read the TwilightGuy posts (although that was back when I still liked the books waaay back in '08). I have heard of Alex although I haven't watched his twilight vids yet.. I'll probably lose a few hours tomorrow doing that :P
I'm so over the hype that mocking the series is the only way to get entertainment from it anymore.
Great post and response to the Kostakis article.

One of my friends linked me to a YouTube video of Alex Day's friend, Charlie, while he read a Chapter as well of Twilight (they swapped vlogs). I *loved* it so then I went back to Alex's own Twilight videos. Really though, everything Alex pointed out is accurate. xD

O.M.G. This is too good. I will definitely be finding the rest of the videos to watch. I have no idea what it has to do with anything but i loved the old guy at the end and his description of what he drew on the playing card, I want to hug him!

Okay, that was freaking hilarious! Must watch the other podcasts. Luv finding others who think that Twilight was wonderfully craptastic.

I just read both articles. All I can say is that I'm definitely not going to be reading any of Alexandra Adornetto's books now (not sure if that's the effect she was going for, but there it is).

I need to go watch some of these videos now...

Ooookaaaay that is hilaaarious! I have to turn it off right now or else I won't be getting anything done tonight at all. But rest assured, I will track the rest of those videos down post haste.

I love love LOVE the fact that he has a Buffy poster on his wall. <3

As for his read-through... nah, I don't agree. But then you knew that ;)

It's very funny though!

This is hilarious! I didn't know about Alex either, so thanks for that! My fave bit: 'I was mugged.' 'Oh, what did he look like?' 'He had bronze hair.' ;) Or however that goes. I was rolling on the ground. Oh, and the old guy in the end. Dunno what that was about, but it cracked me up.

Simply thank you for bringing this to my attention. Now I will go and watch some more. Everything is quotable- enjoyed it alot.
Full disclosure I did like the books until the third at one point but it never stayed with me, then somepeople had a scary "bond" with the characters story etc which creeped me out I'm going to blame it on the fact I was young.

Thank you for sharing the link to William Kostakis' post. Aren't those Alex Reads Twilight videos hilarious?! His friend Charlie McDonnell (who read a bit of Twilight when he recorded a guest post for Alex) is also quite funny and sings creative, entertaining songs like A Song About Love & Duet With Myself. His songs are not related to YA literature, but they do clearly illustrate that not all teen boys are lazy, uncommunicative commitment-phobes who spend their free time knocking back six-packs and throwing up in garbage bins.

I already said it before on Twitter, but thanks so much for posting about this - amazing! I already sent it to a few girls I work with who will not listen to my (usually) logic arguments about why Twilight is not the greatest book ever written. I think they'd at least have a laugh.

I, on the other hand, found it hilarious! Alex is awesome and thank you thank you x2323545 for bringing it to my attention Adele :)

Yeah, Alex is hilarious, I've been watching his vlogs for years -- before he was a musician, he was just a youtube vlogger. His Twilight videos are some of his funniest though and he's completely right about the books (and this is coming from someone who doesn't even hate the first three books). =P

I've seen one Twilight Guy video...it was pretty amusing. That teen boys measured against Cullen article in response to Alexandra Adornetto got me boiling, though! You'd think a teen author would be able to have some experience. Yeesh. >:(

Hey Adele,
I've known about Alex/nerimon for ages! He's hilarious, you should check out his other vids! But I definately think his Twilight series is the funniest.
My fave quotes:
1. You are a twat.
2. My name's Bella and I'm sh*t in everyway.
3. with a degree in english literature??
and 4. WHY DOES NOTHING PLEASE YOU??
I was cracking up all the time and I even downloaded them into Itunes! oh and check out his music, that's amazing too!
