Oz Cover - Wintergirls (LHA)

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson will be released in Australia during March 2010. The cover is completely different to that of the USA. It's pretty, raw and confronting but encapulates the story as far as I am aware. It also features a blurb by Melina Marchetta who by all appearances LOVED it!

What do you think?

I love this cover.
It's actually a painting by a VCE Arts student named Belinda Jenkin (http://www.theage.com.au/ftimages/2009/03/13/1236919555394.html).
I just got a copy of this, and the cover is amazing in the flesh. (Plus of course the book is phenomenal.)

Woah. Really amazing. I think the US cover is already hauntingly creepy but it seems to be nothing compared to this one.

That is such an awesome cover! There is no way you could confuse what this is about with the cover. It's fantastic! I love it!

What an excellent cover. Definitely like it more than the US one. More raw for the subject matter.

Hmm, I must be the only one who doesn't really like this cover than. This girl doesn't look anorexic to me ... The lower part of the body just looks so strange. I'm afraid this cover would probably put me off reading and so I much prefer the US cover, which is BEAUTIFUL. And yeah, this is the best book I've read this year. Hands down, no competition. It was absolutely breathtaking and thinking about it makes me want to read it again, hehe.

Wow, great cover. I haven't read this book yet, but it sounds like I need to.

I have my reservations about this cover. Representation of the female body on the cover of a book about eating disorders is always potentially problematic, and perhaps especially when it's fiction. I love this image, especially as it's by a young woman, and in some ways its ambiguity suits the text, but it unsettles me. Is her gaze troubled or defiant? The whole "Ana" movement so deeply distresses me (I have a niece who has struggled with anorexia) and I just am not sure this image sits right with me as a cover for this particular book. I might need to think about it more. It's beautiful, I agree, but I think I prefer the less representational image on the US cover.

Hmm.. I don't like this cover. I don't think I'd buy it if I saw it in a store, but it looks like I'm in the minority.

I just love the US one so much, and this just feels like *too* much. To me, anyway.

Amazing book!

Interesting cover, though the girl looks more healthy than anorexic.
