FNL Week - Trish Doller

Trish Doller (My Way or the Highway) is an author that I have come to know and love via the wonders (and time sucking distractions) of Twitter. She was one of the first to give FNL a go during Persnickety Snark's FNL Week and here's her reaction to watching the series...

I grew up in northern Ohio, where we know football. Ohio has the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. We have the Massillon Tigers, the Sandusky-Fremont Ross rivalry, Chris Spielman, Orlando Pace (who hails from my hometown, by the way), Earl Bruce, and the legendary Woody Hayes. We have the Ohio State Buckeyes. I am an OSU grad and--win or lose--I am a fan.

So it might come as a surprise that when Friday Night Lights premiered, I had no interest at all. A show about high school football? No, thank you.

But then Adele started twittering about FNL Week and the writers who were guest posting their love for the series on her blog. What is it about this show that inspires such excitement, loyalty, and--in Sarah Dessen's case--rabid fandom? It has to be more than Tim Riggins, right?

Then, I watched the pilot episode and, okay, now I get it. It's not just about football. It's bigger and more complex than that. I might have actually gotten a little misty-eyed at the end of the episode, not only by what happened to Street but by the results of that football game. I might have also watched the next five episodes in a marathon FNL session. But I can neither confirm or deny.

I don't have DirecTV, but I'll be using the time between now and January to catch up on the first three seasons. I mean... working on my book.

Yeah success! One converted, many more to go. Thanks Trish for taking the challenge and I you can smack me for wasting (not really, it's FNL) seven hours of your day, yesterday. Who's next to take the FNL challenge?

Love it. And what a coincidence, I met Trish via Carla on Twitter recently! This is why Trish and I are destined to be friends as well. =)
