If I Stay Cover Art

To your left you will see the British/Australian cover art for Gayle Forman's If I Stay. I am still not sure if I love it but it is definitely representative of the novel. Despite the snow and her barefeet upon a cold surface, Mia (in a hospital gown) looks remarkably hopeful. I like that Mia's looking at the reader (but not as her eyes are closed) in a pose that is definitely atypical for YA cover art.

To you right is the American cover art. I am a big supporter of block colours with tiny details. I don't really believe that this is all that representative of Mia's journey. But then when I think about it, Mia's family tree is pretty much wiped out and she's the sole remaining member, perhaps the a lone budding blossom? Hmmm. I do love the font though - anyone know what it is?

Now for a variation on cover art - the cake version - from Gayle's little launch party (check out her blog for more details and photos.)

It's almost too pretty to eat...Almost. And I do believe this is the first time I have hungered for penguin!

Great post. I much prefer the US cover, and I wish that was the one I had!

Haha, a penguin on a cake! That would either turn off my appetite (because I don't want to ruin its likeness) or make me hunger for the cake more. I think that while the UK/Aussie version is perhaps more representative of the book, I, like you, like the simplicity of the US version, and also its stunning colors. That's not something you see often enough in YA lit covers today.

I like both the covers. The US one looks a bit lighter though. That cake is amazing. And it's a book isn't it? Clever.

ohh the cake does look good. I really like both covers, but I think the british/australian one is prettier in a way.
